Evaluation Updates for 2024
Proposed Evaluation Changes 2024
- Page 1 - Lead Evaluator - add “A lead evaluator may be assigned to each division at the discretion of the board.”
- Page 1 - Evaluation Coordinator - add “The evaluations coordinator will collect player data from evaluators and will compile for the selection committee.”
- Page 1 - Selection Committee - “President, Vice President, and NC Lead Evaluator or age group Lead Evaluator. Previous coaches and identified new coaches may be consulted but will not be present for final decision making. (see page 4)”
- Page 4 - replace with “Evaluations for all divisions will be held in March for 2024.”
- Page 4 - Add “There will be two evaluation sessions a week apart for 2024. Following the first session, the Selection Committee may determine if there are top ranked players with parents willing to be a head or assistant coach for a team in any division. The Selection Committee may then consult with these coaches for team selection as outlined on page 1.”
- Page 4 - replace “The Lead Evaluator for the age category for the intended team may, at the discretion of the Selection Committee, evaluate the proposed player.”
- Page 7 - Add “Evaluators will collect a variety of quantitative (measured) data as well as qualitative (observed based on the experience of evaluators) information. Volunteers without softball coaching/evaluating skill may be used for collecting quantitative data and experienced evaluators with previous coaching and/or evaluating skill will perform qualitative observations.
- Page 7 - Add “U11 division 2 and 3 categories only.” (friend requests)
For the 2024 season the following change has been made from Softball Alberta to replace Divisions 1-3.
Advanced:
? Teams who are primarily comprised of 2nd year U11 players or have been registered in softball either as a Timbits or underage player
? Teams who have 2-3 pitchers that are throwing strikes
? Teams who are attending tournaments and are competitive to the group playing against.
? Teams that have players who attended off season training for skills and pitching.
Developing:
? Teams that are using coach pitch or machine pitch for part of the year or playing with modified rules.
? Teams comprised of many first year U11 or first year ball players.
? Teams that do not have 2-3 pitchers that are throwing strikes
? Teams that for the most part started their training at the start of the season
? Teams that have not attended tournaments to determine how they relate to other teams in the province.
